Another Call

I was home packing last night when the home phone rang. This line is almost always solicitors because we never really give out our home phone or use it to call people for that matter. The only reason why we have it is for our fax.

So I answer thinking it is going to be a solicitor, but it was Respite. It wasn't our regular contact, someone new and she says, "Hi there, are you able to take a placement this weekend?"

It took a couple seconds for me to respond. I'm thinking, who are you? Doesn't it show in the system that we already have 3 for the weekend? Why are you calling on my home phone when I had only given my cell phone? And then I was also doing a mental check of the rooms at the lake trying to find space for another little person.

My response: "Um, we already have three children this weekend ages 10 months, 4 and 6."

"Oh my goodness," she says, "You have your hands full. We'll call someone else."

I told her that if it were any other time we'd be happy to help, but just not this weekend. She thanked me and that was that.

After hanging up the phone I realized that if we had been staying home this weekend it is very likely that I would have considered the placement. Good thing the lake only has room for 3 kids :)

I'm just thrilled to be getting calls!
